Tailor-Made

It was the morning of my move (read “Highlights to get up to speed) and I was ready to get started with the day’s activities.  I made a cup of coffee and had every intention to pick up where I left off the night before with my packing. I was preparing to pour my freshly brewed coffee and I heard the Lord tell me to spend some time with Him prior to starting my day. (He knew I was going to be too exhausted by the end of the day.)  Being the person I am, I asked if I could get my coffee. He said to wait until after. I obliged.

I opened the devotional we are reading in my small group at church and reflected on the memory verse.

“We are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10

As I read it, I began to cry. My tears were of joy and gratitude. Truthfully, I cry often when I think about God’s matchless love for me. I was tailor-made by the Creator of the Universe and so were you! Amazing!! Let that sink in.

This also happened to be one of my favorite verses in the Bible. I love how it speaks to God’s thoughtfulness and intentionality concerning our lives. It stands to be a constant reminder of God’s attention to detail concerning my life.

I decided to dig into the meaning of this verse and share my learnings with you. Is that ok? Great! My first step was to look at the original language of the text and what some of the particular words mean. The Greek word for “handiwork” is “poiema.” In essence, it means “that which has been made or created by God.” The verse also says we were created in Christ Jesus. The word “created” in this context is the word “kitzo” in Greek. It means “to create; to form shape, i.e. to completely change or transform.” I don’t know about you, but when Jesus came into my life, it was certainly a transformative experience and it continues to be. When we choose to yield to Him daily, we find ourselves constantly growing and evolving into the person He envisioned us to be. We were never meant to live out the predetermined purpose of God for our lives without Him. Rather, we have been invited into a partnership with God. He knows the Blueprint for our journey because He made it. I think it is fitting to say we should look to Him for direction. He knows where we are going! The last portion of the scripture speaks to the Master Plan of God. The word prepare is “proetoimazo” in Greek.  It means “to prepare before, to make ready beforehand.”

If you ever wondered if God had a unique plan for your life, the answer is a definitive YES!! This gives my heart great comfort and hope during challenging times. It has served as an anchor for me because I never have to doubt God has strategically planned my days on Earth. However, in order to see it come into fruition, I must choose to do it His way. His way is the best way, though not the easiest – it is tailor-made just for you!

Until Next Time,

Live Audaciously!
