Be Happy

As a teenager of the 90’s, I was a huge fan of “the” Mary J. Blige. I “met” her in middle school when she stormed the R&B scene. In the early 2000’s, she released the song “Be Happy.” One of the stanzas went like this:

“I do believe, that we can be happy, said I want to be happy.”

Mary wasn’t the only one singing about happiness. We have all danced to “Happy” by Pharrell. I’m not going to lie, that song really make me happy! Oh and let’s not forget the classic, “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” by Bobby McFerrin. That’s a good one too!

I began pondering this thought of how to be happy when I was reading Proverbs. I don’t know why I never noticed this before:

“Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding. Proverbs‬ ‭3:13‬ NKJV

“She [wisdom] is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, and happy are all who retain her.” Proverbs‬ ‭3:18‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Throughout the book of Proverbs, wisdom is personified as a woman. The Word speaks of her tremendous value and how she is instrumental in our true happiness.

If you were to read Proverbs Chapters 3&4 in its entirety, you would see a plethora of benefits wisdom offers. Here are just a few:

  • In her left hand are riches and honor

  • In her right hand is long life

  • Her ways are satisfying

  • She is more profitable than silver, better then gold, more precious then rubies

Do you get the picture? She is pretty dope!!!! The beauty of it all is God gives wisdom by faith.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” James‬ ‭1:5‬ NKJV

Now that is good news! Wisdom is right at your fingertips - you must simply ask for it!! I am thankful for this gift because life is hard without it!

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for the gift of wisdom. Please grant me wisdom where I am lacking it. Give me ears to hear and eyes to see. Please grant me new levels of understanding You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Until Next Time,

Live Audaciously!
