Divine Interruptions
Several years ago, I found myself knee-deep in some pretty serious legal trouble. I was disappointed in myself because of the decisions that got me there. Now, it was time to face the music. I was extremely nervous and unsure of what to expect as I waited for my Uber to transport me to the courthouse. As I stood outside of my hotel, I noticed a woman in the distance walking towards me.
Once we were in earshot of each other, she complimented me on my outfit and began making small talk. She asked if I was going to a meeting, which appeared to be a logical assumption because I was wearing business attire. I replied, “No.” She kept asking probing questions and I decided to tell her where I was going and why. She was a stranger and I had nothing to lose at this point. Her next question seemed odd: “Are you a Christian?” I replied, “Yes.” Then I asked her the same question. She also responded, “Yes.”
It is hard to describe, but there was a shift at that moment. I felt like something was about to happen, and it did. She explained she was on her daily prayer walk and never ventures this way. However, today, God interrupted her normal routine and told her to walk a different path. This path led straight to me – a woman who desperately needed to be reminded God sees her and is with her.
She asked if she could pray for me and I said yes! She prayed I would not feel shame because of my current situation. She prayed God would show up on my behalf in the courtroom. As she continued, I began to cry. She cried too. When she finished, we embraced and I was astonished that God thought so much of me that He sent someone to encourage me.
Reflecting on this still brings me to tears. It was exactly what I needed at that very moment. I knew, without a doubt, that God was with me. To spare you the cliffhanger, the verdict worked out in my favor and I absolutely did not get what I deserved. (That’s another story for another day.)
This lovely woman taught me some valuable lessons. She taught me that obeying God in the seemingly "small things" can have a major impact on the lives of others. This encounter will forever be etched in my heart. She taught me to be willing to be inconvenienced or shift my agenda to align with God’s agenda. She taught me the value of truly seeing people through God’s eyes. When she spoke with me in those few moments, she was so kind and compassionate. She made me feel seen. I am forever grateful for her gesture of kindness towards me.
As you read this, what did she teach you? What stands out the most? May this story serve as a reminder that the decisions we make have a ripple effect. Choosing to say “yes” to God every day is the best decision you can ever make.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Help me to daily say “yes” to You even when it inconvenient or difficult. Grant me the courage to step out of my comfort zone when walking in obedience to your instructs. Give me the ears to hear Your leading in every situation and may I have eyes to see those You want to speak to through me. Thank for you for the privilege and honor to share Your heart with those around me. I welcome Your divine interruptions in my life. Help me to daily walk in love and compassion towards the people I encounter.
In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
Until Next Time,
Live Audaciously!
