Make Time To Remember

Below you can listen to the audio version of the post, read by Kay Naomi.

As we walk along this path with God, we encounter valleys and mountains. Wins and lessons. At times, the path is smooth, and other times it is filled with speed bumps and potholes.

In our humanity, when we are met with difficult moments, we can sometimes forget what God has done in our lives.  We forget about His faithfulness. We forget about His goodness. We forget He promised to be a present help in times of trouble. The list can go on.

A little over a week ago, I was conversing with someone and I felt God nudging me to share something with him. It is a reminder we can all stand to hear again. God wanted him to think back and reflect on all the ways He had come through for him in the past. God wanted him to make time to remember. He was receptive and appreciative I shared God’s heart with him. I pray his time of reflecting was rich.

This practice of remembering is woven all throughout the Bible. In response to God saving His people, there was often a holiday or practice implemented. We see this in the book of Esther.

When the children of Israel obtained victory over their enemies, the holiday Purim was established. This was a time in their history “which was turned from sorrow to joy for them, and from mourning to a holiday; that they should make them days of feasting and joy, and sending presents to one another and gifts to the poor” (Esther 9:22). I recommend reading this book for full context. Though the name of God is never mentioned, we see His hand clearly moving on behalf of the children of Israel.

In sharing this, I am not saying we must now celebrate Purim. I am using this as an example to highlight the practice of remembering. Remembering what God has done. The fact that Purim is still celebrated today speaks of how the testimonies of God are passed down from one generation to the next. Psalm 145:4 says it this way:

One generation shall praise Your works to another, and shall declare, Your mighty acts. I will meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty; and on Your wondrous works.

What has God done for you? How has He shown Himself faithful towards you? What did He heal you from? Free you from? Deliver you from?

Make time to remember.  Make time to tell others about what God has done for you.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Your faithfulness towards me. Help me to mediate and reflect on the things you have done for me. Remind me of things I may have forgotten. In difficult times, may I remember, You are the same. You don’t change. You are my Help, my Refuge, my Hiding Place, and my Strength. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Until Next Time,

Live and Love Audaciously!
