Made To Soar

As you may know by now from my previous posts, I love the outdoors.  After an eventful Sunday, I wanted to end my day with a hike.  The sun was due to set in about an hour.  I was hoping to catch a glimpse of the vibrant colors that appear in the sky as day turns into night. There is a beautiful hiking trail fifteen minutes from my house so I decided to go there. I always leave feeling refreshed and inspired (and sometimes sore!)

I hiked up the mountainous terrain for about twenty minutes and then sat down on a bench. While sitting there, a bird caught my attention.  He wasn’t flying, he was soaring.  After moving freely through the sky, he landed on a rock.  As if next in line, a second bird followed suit. I watched him intently.  I observed his wings.  They were outstretched and he moved effortlessly. I reached for my phone to record him and before I could, he too landed on a rock.

In that moment, I heard the Lord say this: “You were made to soar.” I paused and allowed the words to sink in. The sun was beginning to set so I began my descent down the mountain. I wasn’t ready to go to the car just yet so I found a spot where I could admire the sky. It was a stunning sight to behold. I took several photos with my phone but could not capture the true essence of the moment. I pondered what the Lord spoke to me.

Before I move on, I want to add this sidebar: Often, when God speaks to us, there is a Scripture that can confirm what He said. God will never say something to you that contradicts the Bible. If what you believe He is saying does not line up with the Word, it is probably not God you are hearing.

That being said, the Scripture I found was Isaiah 40:31 (I shared the Message version below):

But those who wait upon God get fresh strength. They spread their wings and soar like eagles, they run and don’t get tired, they walk and don’t lag behind.

This verse revealed the prerequiste for soaring which is waiting on God. To gain greater insight, I researched the meaning of the word "wait” in the original language the Scripture was written in. I discovered “wait” could be defined as looking eagerly, being hopeful, expectation, and waiting patiently. I recognized waiting on God is a heart posture; it is a mindset. It is a belief that God will show up on your behalf and do what He said He would.  For example, let’s say you have a financial need. God says He is our Provider. We can put our hope in this truth and eagerly look to He to meet our need.

When we choose to operate in this way, our strength is renewed. THEN we can SOAR. We will have endurance for what lies ahead.

I am thankful to God for His gentle reminders.

You were made to soar but in order to do so, you must wait on ME.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Teach me what it means to wait on You. Help me to delight in Your presence and be intentional in making time for You. Thank you for the promise that as I wait on you I will be strengthened. Teach me to soar like an eagle. Help me to run this race without fainting or being weary. Thank you for being my present Help. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Until Next Time,

Live Audaciously!
