A Bird's Eye View

One thing I love about hiking in LA are the views.  The expanse of the city is displayed right before your eyes.  You see mountains, trees, buildings, and sometimes the ocean depending on where you are.  Everything looks so small in relation to your current location.  You are too high to see the person walking down the street. You can’t hear the lively conversation taking place at a coffee shop.  Even the air is different! Many times we refer to this vantage point as “a bird’s eye view.”

Last week, I talked about how we were made to soar and I shared my observations of two birds. (Read it if you haven’t already. There is some good stuff in there!) I have a pretty vivid imagination and I wondered what it would be like to see from a bird’s eye view.  I found a video that displays the perspective of an eagle flying over Dubai. Check it out!

Pretty interesting stuff, right?

A change in viewpoint truly shifts your outlook.  Every time I find myself on a mountaintop (literally), I am reminded of how true this is. At the end of the day, we can either choose to look at our life from God’s perspective or our own. The Lord’s ways and thoughts are higher than ours so suffice it to say, we should choose His point view every time (see Isaiah 55:9).

I have found myself in situations where I was so focused on the issue, I could no longer see the big picture.  I could not see the lesson God was trying to teach me or how He wanted me to respond.  I recognize when I stare at the circumstance for too long, I am grossly hindered from seeing what God wants to show me.

How do we obtain the perspective God desires for us to have? One way is to guard what we allow into our minds and our thoughts because it will affect our overall outlook.  I have shared several Scriptures below that speak to this specifically.  Read them.  Mediate on them.  Allow God to speak to your heart. If you have the wrong perspective, ask Jesus to shift it to His.

Set your mind and keep focused habitually on the things above [the heavenly things], not on the things that are on the earth [which have only temporal value]. Colossians 3:2 AMP

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final things. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that excellent and worthy of praise. Philippians 4:8 NLT

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. Romans 8:5 KNJV

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Help me to see situations and circumstances in my life from Your perspective. Reveal to me where I am thinking too small or focusing on the wrong things. Help me to daily set my mind on things above. Help me to focus on what is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. Thank you that Your Spirit lives in me. Help me to bear the fruit of Your Sprit everyday of my life.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Until Next Time,

Live Audaciously!

Kay Naomi
