Forward

I recently spent time reflecting on my journey with Jesus. This upcoming week, I will be sharing my story of how I met Him with my small group. I wanted to practice so I wouldn’t go off on a tangent and eat up the allotted time without mentioning some key moments. While driving to work, the practicing began. I imagined myself speaking to the group and as I began telling my story (I was saying it out loud) I was reminded of things I had not thought about in years! I recognized God has been moving in things I never noticed before. Then the tears came.  I was overwhelmed with gratitude and thankfulness as I rehearsed God’s love towards me throughout my life.

Every time I would resume the practice, the tears would keep flowing. Even now, as I type these words, the tears are flowing. This journey with Christ has had mountains and valleys and through it all, He has been faithful. He has been close even when I didn’t “feel” it. He has pursued me when I turned away. He literally saved my life. If He did not intervened on my behalf, I would not be here – and that is no exaggeration.

This exercise of rehearsing what God has done in my life reminded me of chapter 43 in the book of Isaiah. God reminded the child of Israel how he saved their lives so they could escape from Pharaoh (See Isaiah 43:16-17). If you are not familiar with the story, here is a quick synapsis. Moses was sent by God to request the freedom of the children of Israel from Pharaoh. They had been in slavery in Egypt for hundreds of years. Pharaoh eventually relented but then had a change of heart.

After the children of Israel left Egypt, Pharaoh and his army pursued them with the intent of bringing them back. With Pharaoh and his army on their tails, God gave Moses instructions to part the Sea and they escaped to safety on dry land.  The sea closed in on Pharaoh and his army and they drowned.  Now in the words of Travis Greene, “Don’t just read the Bible, read the Bible.” He is saying to really think about it what you are reading. Just imagine this is happening to you. You were once a slave and God saved your life!!

After God reflects on saving them from Pharaoh, He says this:

“But forget all that – it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in dry wasteland.” Isaiah 43:18-19.

When I read this, I believe God is saying this to us:  “I rescued you and it is important to reflect on where you came from and what I have done for you. But don’t get stuck there. Keep moving forward with Me because I have more in store for you!! I am actually setting up the next step for you right now.  Can’t you see it?”

Take time to reflect on what God has done for you.  Ask Him what the “new” thing is if you are not sure. Then take the step on the path He has set for you.

Until Next Time,

Live Audaciously!
